VERTICAL MAPPING RESOURCES PROVIDES GIS CONTENT AND DEVELOPMENT SERVICES TO SALT RIVER PROJECT
Services provided will greatly improve SRP’s Land Management System.
August 10th, 2010, Scottsdale, Ariz. - Vertical Mapping Resources, Inc., a leading photogrammetric and geospatial land information firm with offices in both California and Arizona, was recently contracted by SRP to develop GIS content and provide design/development services.
Salt River Project (SRP), America's third largest electric/water utility, serves over 933,000 customers in the greater Phoenix area covering over 2,900 square miles. SRP's Land Department manages documents detailing over 82,000 land rights. The Department was plagued with hard copy maps deteriorating, sometimes being misfiled or even lost. Additionally, there were no self-service options available for outside departments to access Land Department data. All document requests had to be handled by Land Department staff, causing delays in responses to many land rights questions and concerns.
SRP turned to Vertical Mapping Resources, Inc. (VMR) to assist them with improvements to their Land Rights Information Management System Dissemination Viewer, as part of their efforts to better preserve, organize, update and share critical information. The Viewer allows Land Rights GIS objects to be linked to the Land Department's Document Management System in order to provide immediate access to Land Rights documents. Now that it is completed and functional, Land Agents can locate and visibly distinguish Land Rights, SRP electric and water facilities, and other geographic information provided by various groups within SRP, as well as externally by federal, state, county and local municipalities.
In addition to providing the design and development of the viewer, VMR also helped create content for the system. VMR's GIS technologists digitized over 2,400 Public Utility Easements (PUE's) throughout Maricopa and Pinal counties. The PUE's were delivered in ESRI's shape file format with several defining attributes, such as plat numbers and the date recorded.
