VERTICAL MAPPING RESOURCES PROVIDES MAPPING SERVICES FOR THE FUTURE OF RIVERBANK ARMY AMMUNITION PLANT
Aerial Photography and Topographic Mapping will provide a view of the plants current condition
Sacramento, Calif., May 14th, 2009 - Vertical Mapping Resources, Inc., a leading aerial mapping and geospatial land information company was recently contracted to provide mapping services for California’s Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant. The services requested, include: aerial photography, high precision scanning, aerotriangulation, and topographic mapping at 1”=40’ scale with 1-foot contours. With the help of VMR, architects and engineers are given an in depth view of the plant and its current conditions.
 Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant (RAAP) is located in the northern San Joaquin Valley, approximately 6 miles northeast of Modesto and 90 miles east of San Francisco. Riverbank was constructed in 1942 and since then has been an operational facility for several purposes, such as; aluminum reduction, the manufacturing of steel cartridges, and production of shell and mortar cases for army usage. The plant sits on 173 acres of land, 75 of which are undeveloped, and contains 132 individual buildings. With limited activity and need for the plant since the Vietnam War, it was classified as inactive in 1981. Most buildings have been identified as “under maintenance” since the closure, with the exception of a few that have been leased to non-military related businesses. In 2005, the Department of Defense initiated the closure of RAAP. With 700,000 square feet of Industrial feet available for occupancy, the state of California has planned to convert the plant into a “green friendly” industrial park. Environmentally safe businesses, such as alternative energy companies and recycling operations, are ideal candidates for the plants new tenants.
