TWO PRINCIPALS AT VERTICAL MAPPING RESOURCES EARN PHOTOGRAMMETRY CERTIFICATION
President Joseph Bartorelli and CEO Kurt Okraski Become ASPRS Certified Photogrammetrists
Scottsdale, Arizona, August 19, 2008 – President Joseph Bartorelli and CEO Kurt Okraski, principals of Vertical Mapping Resources Inc. (VMR), a leading integrated aerial mapping and geospatial land information company, recently became Certified Photogrammetrists, a professional distinction granted by the American Society for Photogrammetry & Remote Sensing (ASPRS).
ASPRS was founded in 1934 as a scientific association that now serves more than 7,000 professional members around the world. Its mission is to advance knowledge and improve understanding of mapping sciences to promote the responsible applications of photogrammetry, remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS) and supporting technologies. In order to advance this mission, ASPRS developed a voluntary certification process that is based primarily on evidence of demonstrated professional capability.
Photogrammetrists use technology to extract measurements, make maps and interpret data from images. They are responsible for all phases of mapping, which include planning and supervising survey activities for control; specifying photography or other imagery requirements; and managing projects for mapping or other measurement-related requirements and interpretation.
To earn the distinction of a Certified Photogrammetrist one must:
- Have six years of experience in photogrammetry, including three years in a position of professional responsibility demonstrating technical knowledge and competence;
- Secure references from four persons who are holding, or who have held, responsible positions in photogrammetry;
- Agree to comply with ASPRS’s Code of Ethics; and
- Successfully complete a written examination.
Because a growing number of scientific and technical disciplines depend on photogrammetry and the mapping sciences for reliable measurements and information, the ASPRS Photogrammetrist Certification distinguishes those individuals who possess high standards of ethical conduct, technical knowledge and professional practice. Since the inception of the certification program in 1975, only a select group of professionals have been recognized by ASPRS as Certified Photogrammetrists.
