VERTICAL MAPPING RESOURCES COMPLETES AERIAL MAPPING FOR FORD’S ARIZONA PROVING GROUNDS.
Services provided include topographic mapping and digital orthophotography of approximately 1500 acres northwest of Phoenix.
 September 15th, 2011, Scottsdale, Ariz. - Vertical Mapping Resources, Inc., a leading photogrammetric and geospatial land information firm with offices in both California and Arizona, recently completed a high accurate mapping project for the Ford Motor Company. The purpose of the project was to develop digital topography, planimetrics and orthophotography for Ford’s Arizona Proving Grounds.
The Arizona Proving Ground opened in 1985. The Proving Ground consists of 1,498 acres located less than one hour northwest of the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport at an elevation of 1,650 feet (500 m). The facility was originally a Volvo facility (VAPG) but was transitioned to the Ford branding in the summer of 2009 and renamed the Arizona Proving Ground (APG).
VMR was contracted to provide 1”=20’ topographic mapping and color digital orthophotography of the approximately 1500 acres. The project included acquisition of color aerial photography for the stereoscopic feature collection and surface modeling. VMR also produced a color orthophoto mosaic of the site with a .15’ pixel resolution.
